I am so lucky, my favourite place in my city is right on my doorstep. It’s literally one of the reasons I live where I do. The beach! I’ve lived in all sorts of places, but after covid I realised that not having a daily link to some form of nature can be detrimental to your mental health.  All I could see during Covid was concrete and sand, not the beach kind either, but the desert kind, or more honestly, the wasteland and construction of Abu Dhabi kind. Having lived in Abu Dhabi for over 10 yrs, I had never actually lived anywhere with a view.

So, 2 yrs ago I moved to the beach. Not an open sea view but a view of the many little islands that form some mangroves…..and a golf course. So much greenery, and water. The colours of the sea changing everyday, dark blues, grey, turquoise, just beautiful.  I could gaze at the water for hours, feeling the stresses of the day leave me. However, I was forced to move again, but lesson learnt from my concrete prison before, I chose another sea view with a beach, and now my most favourite place in my city.

At 5am, 30 mins before sunrise, twilight or dawn, walking Harper, everything here feels magical. As the sun slowly creeps up over the distant horizon, it almost feels like a race has started, the light chasing away the dark, and replacing it with its positive vibes. Renewed hope of a new day before us, and a reality check, I need to poop scoop! Whilst the view rarely changes, it still feels like I’m seeing it all for the first time.

The feet sinking into the sand beneath my feet as I walk, surrounding my toes, I know it’s going to be a pain to brush off later, and it never entirely brushes off, as it seems to get everywhere! But it makes me smile, yet another poop scoop awaits, but oh my! Harper’s face and tail wagging in the early rays are always priceless, my most favourite view, in my favourite place, every single day! How blessed I am!
